Based on character art by the artist Kang Minjung.
This was a fun project to work on because the concept art is very stylized and captivating, so the challenge came with trying to translate that into the realm of 3D while retaining everything that made the original artwork stand out. I like to expand my skillset as an artist and show that I can work with stylized pieces just as much as I can with realistic ones. Both have their challenges, and I enjoy both styles equally. However, it is a bit more liberating to exaggerate and push the sculpt further than I normally would. The folds, for example, still needed to follow the rules of normal fabric in how they drape but still be cartoony and true to the 2D art. It’s that balancing act that I enjoy when translating 2D to 3D.
