Based on concept art by the artist Seungho Lee.
A stylized piece with a lot of mechanical parts done in ZBrush and Maya. I loved the original artwork, and I wanted to translate it as faithfully as possible. That can be a challenge when taking into account perspective and the sizing of the elements. It takes a lot of trial and error to see what works and what needs to be modified to work in 3D. An example of the issues a character artist can run into when translating concept art into 3D is the character’s mechanical arm. I wanted the arm to retain the original design while also having some basic movement and functionality. Some of the original design elements clashed with each other, making it difficult to have the arm move around freely. I fixed that by making some minor changes here and there in the wiring and sizing of some of the elements. It’s a balance of respecting the original design while trying to improve it in some ways so that it can work in 3D.
